Google Testing Smart Contact Lens for Measuring Glucose in Patients with Diabetes

Google Company is testing smart contact lens equipped with a micro wireless chip and sensor capable of measuring glucose levels in patients with diabetes.


People with diabetes need to measure the level of glucose in the blood on a regular basis, and that by dragging a drop of blood from the finger tip, and then put it on a slide device to measure blood sugar. 

The smart contact lens from Google provides the possibility of measuring the level of glucose in the patient through the tears in the eye, which obviates the traditional method that requires to puncture the finger to get a drop of blood.

The smart contact lens that Google testing them featuring the possibility of measuring the level of glucose once every second, also Google planning to provide it with LED light to alert the user when the glucose level exceeded a certain limit. 

In regard to the power supply necessary for this lens, Google pointed out that it will be charged remotely using 5 mm antenna built inside the lens and it receive energy from an antenna is approximately 10 cm from the eye. 

The antenna can send information about the levels of glucose, which opens up the possibility of developing applications for mobile devices capable of monitoring glucose levels.
